A “kalpulli” is an independent, self governing and self sufficient community. Before the invasion of Itzachitlatlan by the Europeans, kalpullis formed the basic social political structure for the larger society. The Kalpulli Taos hopes to bring together people of many talents with a common vision – that we will once again be able to live in harmony on Tonantzin, our mother earth. We are very excited to be able to share our land, 116 acres.
We imagine a society that is based on equality, an equality that is extended to all humans, regardless of gender or race or sexual orientation, a society that practices participatory democracy, which protects individual and minority rights. Each person’s life journey, each person’s personal truth, was valued and protected to the extent that no one could speak for someone else. Each person only knows what is truly in his mind and heart and has the right to express it in his own words.
Imagine a child oriented society, where your child’s rights and future was considered, protected, and mandated. Every decision made by the councils had to take into consideration how that decision would affect SEVEN GENERATIONS INTO THE FUTURE. This ensured not only the rights of your children, but your grandchildren, your great-grandchildren, plus four future generations Also imagine that the basic spiritual principle of this society is biodiversity. The original instruction from the Creation is survival and how to sustain survival, how to live in harmony and balance with our environment and our fellow species.. This is how we wish to live, and these are the goals of the Kalpulli Taos.
